May 2010 - Effective Strategies for CBCAP Engagement with Tribes
This is the first in a series of webinars focused on Effectively Working with Diverse Populations. We began this series with a focus on ways the CBCAP SLAs can strengthen their relationships with tribes to more effectively engage them in child abuse prevention efforts. John George, shared relevant lessons and strategies for engagement based on CWLA's experience supporting a network of the state Indian Child Welfare managers, to continuously develop the state of practice and promote effective working partnerships with Tribes. Carolyn White provided a tribal perspective for the importance of engagement in particular around child abuse prevention.

Presenters explored the following questions:
-- Why Tribes and CBCAP SLAs may want to work together; what are the opportunities and benefits to each; how important is this?
-- What are the areas of content for ongoing collaboration?
-- How do you go about it, from the CBCAP SLAs side of the relationship, including examples of successful approaches and strategies for sustained collaboration in support of tribal and off-reservation Indian communities?

The presenters were:

John George
CWLA Senior Consultant
Manager of Indian Child Welfare Initiatives

Carolyn White, MSW, LCSW
Family Services Executive Director
Poarch Band of Creek Indians
